The village

Paüls (Baix Ebre, Tarragona) is placed in the slopes of the massif of the Ports, built around a hill, presided over for the ruins of a castle of Arab origin and the ancient, semi-detached church in the rests of the castle, with Romanesque and Gothic elements, dedicated to Santa Maria and orientated in order to the nascent sun.

The streets of the village are left spaced out and are narrow and steep; long ago they were paved; now they are coated with concrete. The houses give the village beauty and singularity; looks from far away some seem constructed on the other ones. Almost all of them have two doors of entry, placed in streets and different floors. For the door of low the entry (ground floor) is accessed to; for the door of above, in the second or third floor of the building.

In the forest there are wild boars, rabbits, partridges, wild goa and other feral animals, surrounded by an impressive arch of mountains.

An ideal place to enjoy admirable natural spaces in the pleasing heart of the nature, with charming places for every type of encounter... .

Situation

Paüls is placed at 24 km of Tortosa; at 33 km of Gandesa; at 36 km of Amposta; at 80 km of Salou (Port Aventura); at 96 km of Tarragona and Reus; at 114 km of Lleida and at 185 km of Barcelona. It limits the municipal terms of Horta de Sant Joan (Museum Picasso); Alfra of the Ports (Pantxampla); Xerta (fishing in the Weir of the Ebre) and Benifallet (fishing in the Ebre and Caves of the Wonders). Also fishing upstream, in the villages of that going round and in the reservoirs of Flix and Mequinensa.
